I ricercatori hanno analizzato il cervello dei soggetti eseguendo delle risonanze magnetiche prima e dopo il training di meditazione e hanno scoperto che emergevano dei cambiamenti nelle zone cerebrali collegate alla memoria, all’empatia, al senso di sé e allo stress .
Lo studio , apparso sulle pagine della rivista Psychiatry Research , è il primo che dimostra l’esistenza di un collegamento tra la meditazione e i cambiamenti nella materia grigia . I ricercatori, guidati da Sara Lazer , hanno concluso che nelle persone che avevano praticato la meditazione si registrava un aumento della densità dell’ ippocampo , dove risiedono importanti funzioni legate alla memoria e alla conoscenza, e anche in altre zone cerebrali legate all’empatia e all’ introspezione ; inoltre si registrava una diminuzione dello stress e un calo della densità della materia grigia dell’ amigdala .
